The most expensive New Year's Eve destinations in the Midwest
December 28, 2017Detroit has just been named the Midwest USA’s most expensive destination in which to ring in the New Year. A recent survey conducted by ChicagoHotels.org places it at the top of its rankings.
In coming up with the list, the survey stacked 20 popular Midwest cities up against each other. The rate of each destination’s cheapest available double room on December 31, 2017 served as the basis of comparison. The survey excluded hotels that lacked a central location and those with less than a 3-star rating.
A December 31st price tag of $359 for its cheapest available double room catapulted Detroit into the survey’s number one position. That dollar figure represents a 182% price hike over regular rates for New Year’s Eve revelers in Michigan’s largest city.
Kansas City and Minneapolis complete the Top 3. Overnight rates of $259 and $258 respectively put them in the number two and three positions. At the bottom of the rankings is Wichita, Kansas. With rooms available on the last night of the year for $79, it ranks as the Midwest’s least expensive location for New Year’s Eve.
The following table compares 20 destinations in the Midwest for New Year's Eve. The rates indicated reflect the price for the cheapest available double room on December 31, 2017.
