The most expensive summer destinations in the Midwest
Updated: August 12, 2019Traverse City, situated on Lake Michigan, is the priciest summer destination in the Midwest, according to a recent survey conducted by ChicagoHotels.org.
The survey compared all midwestern destinations based on the minimum price travelers will spend, on average, to stay in the most affordable available double room during the month of August 2019. The survey only considered centrally-located hotels or inns rated at least 3 stars or higher.
At an average per-night rate of $238 for the most affordable room, Traverse City is the priciest Midwest destination this summer. South Haven ($218) and Saint Joseph ($214), other Michigan destinations, round out the top three.
Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, ranks fourth priciest at an average starting room rate of $189 per night. In Ohio, the priciest summer destination is Port Clinton, which also stands as 10th most expensive overall in the Midwest at an average starting room rate of $146 per night.

About the Methodology
The survey considered all destinations in the Midwest with at least 10 hotels or inns. Only well located hotels and inns rated at least 3 stars and with positive average client ratings were considered. For each destination, the average price for the cheapest available double room was established for the time period spanning Aug. 1�31, 2019. Rates were established at the end of July based on research conducted on the hotel comparison website Kayak.Press Contact
